Brazil Dominates in Skate Street Prelims
By Colin Bane
The skate street prelims kicked off a big day at the LG Action Sports Championships on Saturday. The field came from near and far to compete, including Dallas-local Kolby Petrus to Mohd Firdaus from Singapore as well as a host of skaters from Brazil. To no ones surprise, the Brazilians dominated the wooden ramps, taking five of the ten qualifying spots.
Nineteen-year-old Danilo do Rosario from Brazil was on fire from the get-go. After his first run the other skaters were jokingly calling him "number one," but as it turns out, they were right. Rosario popped and slid his way to qualify comfortably into first by more than 4 points.
Qualifying in second was another Brazilian, Wagner Ramos, but Wisconsin's Greg Lutzka wasn't about to let it be a Brazilian sweep. Though he had a little trouble on his second run, he had already secured his place in the finals with his first. Lutzka effortlessly tail slid and crooked grinded the hubba ledges, front lipped the flat bar and popped huge spins on the quarterpipes and over the pyramid.
Rounding out the top ten were Tulio de Oliveira (BRA), Dayne Brummet (USA), Rodolfo Ramos (BRA), Mike Peterson (USA), Rodney Jones (USA), Kyle Berard (USA) and Carlos de Andrade (BRA).
The skate street finals will take place on Sunday, when Greg Lutzka will attempt to continue his winning streak that includes the final two stops of the Dew Tour. First he will have to top five Brazilians and three other capable skaters also hoping to take the LG Action Sports World Championship title.

he's sitting down in sixth, don't count him out.
